It seems to me that these days we are all running around like crazy people who are desperately trying to be relevant or find a "purpose" in life that makes us seem significant or cool in the lives of others. Don't get me wrong, I spent many years trying to come up with the best ideas that would make me super popular and skyrocket my followers on Instagram or social media in general. But you reach a point in life, or at least I did, when you wonder, what is all of this for? What are all the followers for? What does it mean to seek (and receive) this kind of validation? What does it all mean if you aren't living your truth, or worse, you aren't happy?
Which brought me to this idea of intentional living. Living each and every day with the "conscious attempt to live according to your own values and beliefs". I don't know about you, but a lot of my anxiety stems from having an idea in my head about the values I truly hold close to me, yet I live my daily life so distant from these values because in the chaos of the day, it is easier to choose quick, convenient and immediate gratification over upholding the beliefs that to my core are so important to how I want to live.
3 Ways to Live Life with Intention:
1. Write down your values and beliefs.
Writing it out puts words to paper and provides a visual representation about what is important to you. Then, read this every day. Each and every day. Until it's unmistakably in your mind and you have a clear guide on how you want to align your life to your beliefs.
2. Make the decision to live life on your own terms.
We are so caught up in comparison these days that we forget to celebrate our differences and what gives us personality. There is nothing less exciting than going somewhere only to watch people let the moment pass by them as they attempt to get the perfect selfie or document the moment for some fickle friends rather than being present and taking it all in. Rebel. Be the person that enjoys each and every moment of the life you're living.
3. Set goals and accept failure as a learning experience.
We are only human at the end of the day. We learn by doing. We learn by failing and we learn by trying again. Set goals for yourself and realistic expectations to reach them. But understand that things might not always work out and that is okay.
Life is a journey, and the destination that is guaranteed to all of us is death. Do you really want to get to the end and have regrets or feel like you didn't get the most out of life? I didn't think so. So start today, wherever you are, to live life more intentionally and with purpose rather than simply letting each and every day pass you by.
